Security tightened in Jammu ahead of I-Day

Jammu, Aug 13: Police have intensified night patrol and Naka checking across the Jammu city and its outskirts, including sensitive places like airport railway station and bus stand ahead of I-Day.
Following a meeting of police officials, all the nakas have been strengthened and senior police officers are conducting surprise checks on regular intervals at all the sensitive places across the city.
With the help of volunteers and individual associated with various organizations, the police have deployed its men in strength, especially during the evening to carry out checking of the vehicles.
The Village Defence Committee (VDC) members have been asked to keep strict vigil in their areas in-coordination with the police, besides taking them on board for intensifying the patrol along the border areas, police sources said.
“We have mobilized our security mechanism at every level keeping in view the sensitivity of the area. While, VDC members have been asked to keep strict vigil in their respective villages, they are also coordinating with Army and Border Security Force (BSF) troopers and police to check any movement along the border line areas,” SP (Headquarter) JS Johar told Greater Kashmir.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Airport ML Mehra told Greater Kashmir three CRPF companies had been deployed in and around the Jammu airport to provide full proof security.
He said: “The people coming to sea off the passengers will not be allowed to go inside till August 20 for security reasons.”
“We have strengthened nakas and surprise checking are being conducted in a well coordinated manner across the city. We will also seek the help of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for maintaining security,” SP (South) Rashvir Singh said.
