Tamil students express solidarity with Kashmiris

CONDEMN KILLINGS

Chennai, Aug 13: Over 100 Tamil student activists from Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) and other parties, were arrested Friday for organising a protest here against the continuing “atrocities in the Kashmir valley”.
While expressing solidarity with Kashmiris, a memorandum by Tamil students demanded that “India should stop war on the Kashmiri people, AFSPA should be scrapped immediately, army should be withdrawn from Kashmir and talks should be initiated on the rights of the Kashmiris to self-determination.
The police arrested scores of Tamil student activists. “The Indian government and its media agents try to portray the Kashmiri struggle in communal overtones. This propaganda is deliberately done to cover the atrocities perpetrated on the Kashmiri people,” PDK activists said.
PDK on behalf of the Tamil activists, pledged solidarity with the Kashmiri people’s demands and stressed the importance of taking the issue to the Tamil masses.
The activists said that PDK stands by the right of the Kashmiris to self-determination, recognizing them as a unique national formation. “Today’s arrest of the PDK activists who voiced their support for the Kashmiri struggle clearly shows the fascist nature of the state and its stooges,” the PDK activists said.
