UHQ MEETING POSTPONED
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Srinagar, Aug 13: A meeting of Unified Headquarters (UHQ) to be chaired by Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah was not held here this evening due to the “non-availability of senior police and para-military officials” who were busy in ensuring law and order situation in the Valley.
While a New Delhi-based news channel reported that chief minister stayed away from the UHQ meeting in protest against latest killings in the Valley, the State government spokesman termed as “mischievous” the reports interpreting the postponement of meeting as a mark of protest by the Chief Minister against the killings.
“The Chief Minister, who chairs the UHQ meeting, postponed today’s meeting scheduled at 6 PM because of the engagement of senior police and para-military officials in maintaining law and order duties in the field,” the spokesman said.
The meeting will be held as per schedule tomorrow, the spokesman said.
The UHQ comprises top brass of Police, CRPF, Army and Intelligence agencies.
The Chief Minister again appealed to people to maintain calm and not to get misguided by the vested interests whose only aim was see that the people of the state remained economically backward.
