Amarnath Yatra suspended due to incessant rains
Jammu, Aug 14: The risk of landslides due to incessant rains that lashed Jammu region has forced authorities to suspend Amarnath Yatra.
Officials said at present over 800 pilgrims were waiting for their turn at Yatri Niwas Jammu for onward journey to the Cave in the Valley.
However, in view of incessant rains since last evening being experienced in parts of Jammu region and along the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal, the authorities did not allow any pilgrim to proceed from Jammu.
According to officials, with the fresh batch of 1042 yatris which left from Nunwan and Sonamarg base camps for the Cave, the number of yatris who had darshan this year rose to 4,47,473.
The Yatra will conclude on August 24, on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
Chhari Poojan performed in Sgr
In connection with the annual pilgrimage of Amarnath, Chhari Poojan was performed on the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami by Mahant Deependra Giri Maharaj at Shri Amareshwar Temple, Akhara Building, Budshah Chowk amidst chanting of Vedic hymns in presence of hundreds of devotees and Sadhus who were gathered at the venue to pay obeisance to the Chhari Mubarak of Baba Amarnathji here this evining.
“The Chhari Mubarak will be taken to the Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji on 19th August from Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar and after halts at Phalgham on August 19 and 20, at Chandenwhari on August 21, at Shashnag on August 22 and at Panchtarni on August 23, it reach at the Holy Cave Shrine on 24th August on the occasion of Shravan Purnima,” said Mahant Giri.
