Police bows to Saffron Brigade
10 Medicos, 2 Law Students Among 13 Booked In Jammu
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Aug 14: The family members of the youth, who were arrested and booked by police under Unlawful Activist (Prevention) Act, have accused the police of spoiling the career of their wards on the behest of the saffron brigade in Jammu.
Police has arrested thirteen students, including ten medicos of a private medical college, two law students and one IGNOU student for, what their parents claim, “Raising protest against innocent killings in most peaceful and democratic manner right under the nose of the saffron brigade in Jammu”. Police has booked all of them for allegedly hatching criminal conspiracy and for resorting to unlawful activities.
The family member of the detainees alleged that their wards never raised any kind of slogans as has been alleged against them and the protest was organized in presence of the police personnel. “The students were just raising concern over the killings of their brethren in Kashmir in a democratic and legal manner”, father of one of the detainee, who preferred not to be named said. He said if similar protests could be held in Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai peacefully why only the students joining protests in Jammu are being targeted.
He said that the same police officer, who was present on the spot, was now investigating the case and has levelled serious and baseless allegations against their wards only to “please some hardliner right wing groups in Jammu associated with RSS”.
He said that the most of the detainees were to appear in examination, these days, but due to their detention they are facing serious threat to their career.
Pertinently these students had staged a protest demonstration in Jammu against the killings in Kashmir. However, immediately after the demonstration, tension gripped Jammu University, where some student organisation resorted to violence and also allegedly attacked some Kashmiri students.
Fearing more trouble, police immediately swung into action and arrested all the students who had staged the demonstration. However, family members of the detainees claimed that their wards had surrendered before the police, after they were assured of fair investigation.
