3 militants killed, man shot dead in Sopur
Jammu, Aug 15: Three militants were killed in a gunbattle with troops in Jammu and Kashmir while a civilian was shot dead in Sopur area.
Acting on a tip-off that some militants were hiding in Rajdhani forest belt at Thanamandi, troops of Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area.
In the ensusing gunfight, two ultras were killed and a police constable was wounded on Saturday, said SSP (Rajouri) R K Jalla who supervised the operation.
A militant was still hiding in the area and the exchange of fire was still on, he said.
Two troopers were also injured in the exchange of fire.
The Commanding Officer of the Rastriya Rifles had escaped unhurt in the
attack.
A militant was killed in an encounter with troopers in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, a defence spokeman said today.
The gunbattle broke out in Rajwar forest, 90 kms from here, last night when militants hiding in the forests opened fire on the search party of army, the spokesman said.
He said one militant, who is yet to be identified, was killed in the operation, which was going on when reports last came in.
Man shot dead in Sopur
Unidentified gunmen shot dead a man in north Kashmir’s Sopur town, police said on Sunday.
“Gunmen barged into the house of Abdul Rehman Check son of Subhan Check of Check Mohalla in Sopur last night and took him along. His bullet riddled body was recovered from Dangerpora this morning,” a police official told Greater Kashmir.
