Mobile, internet services jammed
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Srinagar, Aug 15: Authorities on Sunday blocked mobile and internet services for several hours in the valley.
The mobile services of BSNL, Airtel, Aircel, Reliance, Idea, Vodafone and Tata Indicom were jammed in the morning and restored in the afternoon after the official I- day function passed away at city and district headquarters.
“Whether it is January 26, August 15 or any other occasion, mobile customers have to suffer due to snapping of services,” said Nazir Ahmed Mir.
“I don’t think in any other part of India including Naxal affected areas, mobile services are jammed on any given day,” said an Airtel subscriber Fayaz Ahmed.
“What is the fun of snapping services which are 10 kilometres away from the Bakshi Stadium? Even the security cordon was not beyond two kilometres,” residents of Bagh-e-Methab said.
Various news organizations and portals in valley failed to update their websites due to the jamming of services.
When contacted General manager BSNL Mahesh Shukla said that services were shut for three hours on the directives of police in the valley.
