Army Chief calls on CM, Guv

Srinagar, Aug 16: Chief of the Army Staff, General VK Singh, GOC- in-C, Lt Gen BS Jaswal and GOC 15 Corps, Lt Gen NC Marwah Monday called on Chief Minster, Omar Abdullah here.
The security situation in the state was discussed in the meeting which lasted for about 40 minutes, an official spokesman said. General VK Singh met the Governor, NN Vohra, at Raj Bhavan, here today, an official spokesman said.
During their more than one and a half hour meeting, the Chief of Army Staff briefed the Governor about the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the “emerging threats on certain fronts.”
They also discussed issues pertaining to the infiltrations from across the Line of Control and the International Border and the likely security scenario in the State in the coming months. The Governor congratulated and thanked General Singh for the excellent work done and being done by the Army, BRO and GREF in the wake of the recent disaster in Ladakh. Earlier, the Director General, CRPF, Vikram Srivastava, called on the Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here this morning and gave a detailed briefing to him about various issues relating to the role and responsibility being discharged by his force, in coordination with the J&K Police. The Governor reiterated his concern about the need for the Security Forces to ensure the protection of human life while controlling protestations by large crowds.
 During his hour long meeting with the Governor, the Director General, CRPF was accompanied by the Special Director General, CRPF, J&K Zone, NK Tripathi, IG, CRPF, Srinagar, PVK Reddy and IG, CRPF, Operations, Kashmir, Dr NC Asthana.
