RAJOURI ENCOUNTER ENDS, TOLL 4
Jammu, Aug 16: The 50-hour encounter between militants and troopers in Rajouri district ended today with the killing of one more militant and a trooper, police said. With these two deaths toll in the encounter mounted to four.
The gunfight had started in Shara Wali forest belt in Rajouri district on Saturday. “The operation has been called off as three militants holed up in the forests have been killed,” a police officer said.
He said besides three unidentified militants, a trooper S K Singha was also killed, while four persons including Major Susheel Mahapatra of 38 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Police Officer Iftikhar Malik, constable Nasir Ahmed and a civilian Abdul Razak sustained injuries during the gunfight.
He identified slain militants as Sajad Kashmiri, Abu Qamran and Zargar.
