CRPF vehicle kills retired cop

Srinagar, Aug 17: A retired assistant sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police died in a road accident at Batmaloo here Tuesday afternoon. His family said the police officer was hit by a fast moving CRPF vehicle.
Quoting eyewitnesses, the family of Muhammad Yousuf Khan, 84, of SD Colony Batamaloo said he was hit by a CRPF vehicle near Nund Reshi Colony. “He was rushed to JVC hospital on bypass where he was declared dead,” said Khan’s son.
He said Khan left home at 1 pm on his bicycle. The intensity of the impact was such that Khan was thrown up several feet into the air and landed in the nearby marsh.
Khan would often lead prayers in the Masjid of his locality.
Police said an “unknown vehicle” hit Khan resulting in his on the spot death. “Police has taken cognizance and registered a case in this regard and efforts are on to identify the vehicle and arrest the culprit,” a police spokesman said.
