Forget autonomy, focus on governance: BJP to Omar
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Jammu, Aug 19: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) today said that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should concentrate on providing good governance and restoring law and order in the Valley rather than focusing on demands for autonomy.
“As a Chief Minister of the state, Omar should address the basis grievances of the people and concentrate on equitable development of Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu,” the BJP president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here.
Since the state is passing through tough times, the Chief Minister should not divert the attention of the people by raking up the issue of autonomy, he said.
"There are no takers for autonomy in Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir regions,” Singh said, adding that as per as nationalists are concerned, they are totally opposed to any weakening of the ties between this state and rest of the country.
