Court grants bail to 13 students
PRO-FREEDOM SLOGAN CASE
Jammu, Aug 20: The Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu Friday granted bail to thirteen out of fourteen students, who were arrested and booked under Unlawful Activities Act, for raising pro-freedom slogans in Jammu.
The CJM MS Parihar, after hearing the prosecution and counsel for the applicants, observed that the accused have been booked for allegedly staging protest demonstration outside Jammu University on August 10, 2010, during which they were carrying play cards and banners and raised anti-national slogans demanding “freedom of Kashmir”. The accused, the court observed, have also been accused of delivering provocative speeches.
The perusal of the case dairy reveals that except the alleged involvement of the applicants in the said occurrence they are not found involved in any other unlawful activity and except seized material no other illegal substance has been recovered from the possession of applicants, the court observed while granting bail to thirteen students with the direction to furnish bail bonds and personal bonds to the tune of Rs 25000 each.
The fourteenth student, Hussain Babbar had not applied for bail
