CRPF IN DOCK OVER INNOCENT KILLINGS
Police Registers Murder Case In Sopur
UMER MAQBOOL DAR
Srinagar, Aug 20: Police on Friday registered a murder case against the paramilitary CRPF troopers for the killing a teenager in the Apple Town of Sopur last night.
An FIR (414/2010) under section 302 RPC has been registered against CRPF for killing 19-year-old Mudasir Ahmed Hajam in ‘unprovoked firing’, police sources told Greater Kashmir.
“Police is also investigation whether it was 177 or 179 battalion of paramilitary troopers who opened fire last night wounding four youth .One of them Mudasir later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura,” they disclosed.
They said that police has also registered FIR against CRPF troopers in four other killings in Sopur during past two months. “We have registered FIR against CRPF wherever use of unjustified force resulted in civilian casualties,” police sources said.
With yesterday’s killing, the death toll in CRPF firing in Sopur has gone up to 10 since June 25. There has been no killing in police action in the town so far. The killings started in Sopur on June 25, when paramilitary CRPF troopers shot dead two youth Shakeel Ahmed Ganai of Lalad and Firdous Ahmed Kakroo of Niglee Sopur who were part of a procession demanding bodies of two militants killed in Krankshevan.
After two days, CRPF troopers shot dead a daily wager Bilal Ahmed Wani in the town. The state government took serious exception to the killing and termed the firing by CRPF unwarranted.
“Some 20 youth had gathered in the Sopur town and there was no justification to open fire on them,” Law and Parliamentary affairs minister, Ali Muhammed Sagar had said in a press conference. However he was rebuked by coalition partner Congress and central government for his views.
A day later on eve of Sopur Chalo on June 28, Tajamul Bashir Bhat was killed by CRPF troopers at Kapra cinema, when people were marched towards town to express solidarity with people.
After a lull of one month, troopers shot dead Muhammed Ahsan Ganai and Showkat Ahmed Wagay at Amargarh Sopur on July 30.
22-year old Rameez Ahmed Reshi of Mundji Sopur succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura on August 7, after being hit by bullet a day earlier. Two more youth Arif Ahmed Mir and Sameer Ahmed Lone of Logripora were killed by troopers of 92 battalion, at Bomai on Aug 13.
