Srinagar, Aug 22: The policeman Abdul Ahad Jan who hurled a shoe towards the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during an I-day parade last week is battling for life in ward no.3 of SMHS hospital due to renal failure.
His family members alleged that he has suffered renal failure due to torture in police custody. “I couldn’t sleep for 7-days due to severe pain in kidneys, head, arms and legs,” Jan told Greater Kashmir on Sunday.
Doctors attending upon Jan said that he is suffering from acute renal failure due to multiple causes including torture. “Trauma, gastronentitis, pain killer medication and contrast induced lead to renal failure,” they said.
Jan revealed how policemen tortured him for hours in the Cargo camp of Special Operations Group here. “These were most difficult moments of my life and I almost gave hope of coming out alive. They continuously beat me up with gun butts, bamboo sticks and whatever they had. They left me after blood started oozing out of my mouth,” he said.
Jan, who became overnight hero has been kept in an isolated ward as people thronged to visit him. His two sons Shakeel and Showkat were massaging his legs and arms.
“See what they have done to our father. Hadn’t there been protests they would have killed him,” they added.
Jan’s family has refused to accept help from people despite his treatment costing them a whopping amount. “We have spent more than Rs 15000 on his treatment in the past five days. Doctors assured us of all help and even some promised us to take him outside for treatment on their own expenses,” they added.
