ML condemns police action
Srinagar, Aug 22: Muslim League on Sunday strongly condemned the arrest of youth and assault on women by police at Bemina.
In a statement, the party spokesman, Master Muhammad Shahid said “policemen are committing atrocities on Kashmiris for rewards, promotions and to appease the India.” It said the police was undertaking arbitrary arrests and ‘subjecting the youth to third degree torture.’ “To crush the movement, the police has been given unbridled powers. They are arresting youth and booking them under PSA. We know all the policemen are not against the people. So they should not be part of force which has not respect for human values. Why don’t the family members, relatives of the policemen urge them stop acting against their own people,” the statement said. “We ask the policemen to desist from anti-people activities otherwise people will intensify agitation against them,” it said. The spokesman condemned the firing on protesters at Chattabal. The party said people should take to streets and keep hitting their rooftops incase there area was cordoned to arrest the youth.
