GoI has to bow before this movement: Malik
SAMAAN LATEEF
Srinagar, Aug 27: A day after his release, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammad Yaseen Malik asserted that Government of India has to bow before the ongoing mass movement in Kashmir.
Leading a rally along with the president Jamiat Ahlihadith, Moulana Showkat Hussain, from Madina Chowk to Badshah Chowk here after Friday congregational prayers, he said India should respect the ongoing peaceful protests of Kashmiri people and make stepped up efforts for the permanent resolution of vexed Kashmir issue.
Describing the youth as embodiment of sacrifices, he said the ongoing movement depends on the Kashmir youth and they should continue the mass revolution. He appealed youth to continue the mass movement on the pattern of 2008 uprising, when all men and women were on roads.
He said, “Indian troops have conducted massacre of Kashmiri youth from the age of 8 years to 20. They have unleashed terror on peaceful protesters and are beating youth to death.”
Citing the example of Umar Qayoom of Soura, who was killed after police torture in custody, he said the cops beat Umar to pulp and left him half dead.
Malik said after his release from jail in 1996, he started peaceful struggle under signature campaign, Safari-i-Azadi and made several attempts to resolve Kashmir through dialogue. However, India did not respect those efforts, he said.
He appealed international community and Indian civil society to impress upon Indian government to stop civilian killings and respect the ongoing movement. For past 63 years India had used every tactic to muzzle down the voice of Kashmiri people but it failed at every step, he said.
Malik appealed people to respect the minority communities and carry out peaceful protests. He said India was making unsuccessful attempts to prove Kashmiri people as communal.
