Srinagar, Aug 27: Expressing strong resentment over National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s recent statement in Parliament that Kashmiris wanted to live with India, Hurriyat Conference (G) dared him to walk for only five minutes in Lal Chowk.
 This was stated at the Advisory Council meeting of Hurriyat held here today with its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in chair. The members termed Farooq’s statement as the extreme of buffoonery and a sheer lie. “Dr Farooq should think more of his family’s safety than talking of Kashmir. He has lost his ground in Kashmir. His son couldn’t even find a way to his ancestral residence Soura. No doubt his helicopter landed at SKIMS but he was strongly hooted by the people present there,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat.
 Speaking on the occasion, Geelani said if at all Dr Farooq’s statement was true, then India should have no objection in holding referendum in Kashmir. “Our fundamental demand is that plebiscite should be held to ascertain view of Kashmiris so that it becomes clear whether or not they want to live with India,” he said, adding that the implementation of UN Resolutions was the  best and the easiest way to resolve Kashmir issue.
 Meanwhile, Hurriyat has appealed to the people to observe austerity while celebrating Eid-ul-Zuha as “It is our moral and religious responsibility to celebrate Eid in a simple way as the families of those whose dear ones were martyred in the last three months will do,” said the spokesman, urging the bakers to sell only Bagirkhanis, Kulchas and loaves on the eve of Eid and desist from selling luxury bakery items. He has also appealed to mutton dealers to sell as less quantity of mutton as they can on the eve of Eid. He has also appealed to the people to cook vegetable dishes on Eid.
