Srinagar, Aug 27: The J&K Bank Board of Directors Friday approved interim appointment of state’s commissioner/secretary, Finance, Sudanshu Panday, as the acting chairman of the Bank.
Panday is on the Board of the Bank since 31 March, 2009.
The Reserve Bank of India is being approached for seeking requisite approval, a Bank spokesman said.
The decision to this effect was taken at an “extraordinary meeting” of the BOD here this evening. “The BOD also decided to form a search committee to look for the new chairman for the Bank,” sources said.
Meanwhile, some ‘potential’ candidates have started hectic lobbying to grab coveted post.
Sources said India’s Chief Information Commissioner, Wajahat Habibullah and Kashmiri banker, Irfan Muzammil Soz, head of the Middle East Operations of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) are lobbying hard for the post of chairman, J&K Bank. Irfan is the son of state Congress chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz. Sources said several state-based officials are also trying to assume to post.
