New means

This refers to Zeeshan Pandit's Oppressive Education (GK Aug 1.) Not to speak of Kashmir only, the education system of the whole country needs a serious overhaul. We have been restricted to rigid structures in our syllabus which produce students who just 'know' can't think of their own. The education reforms  proposed by Mr.Sibal though not entirely helpful certainly carry certain indications. The need of the hour is not to produce mere graduates but those who can lead a nation forward into the next millennium.
Revamping the system is not just the job of the government. In a state where children lose a majority of their academic year due to shutdowns, the foremost issue is devising a method that ensures an education unhampered by hartals. Anybody who thinks homeschooling is a feasible option is just kidding himself. When you talk about forums on Facebook where students can express themselves, you are talking about a small minority. What about people who don't have access to the internet or to a teacher and whose education is going down the drain?
