The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has rightly made an appeal to people of Jammu and Kashmir that the cycle of violence must end. However, it is important that we understand how this violence takes place. The root cause of it is the killings. It is in retaliation that people torch the government property. The troops must exercise restraint and just resort to aerial firing while dispersing protesters. At the same time, people must refrain from burning public property which belongs to us.
