1196 Stranded Persons Evacuated

Srinagar, Aug 8: The government has confirmed that 131 deaths have occurred so far in the cloudburst and flash floods in Leh, of which 80 bodies have been identified.
The list of those, confirmed dead has been posted on the website of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir WWW.Kashmirdivision.nic.in for the information of public.
Meanwhile, 11 bodies of non- locals have been airlifted to district Udhampur wherefrom they have been dispatched to their respective locations. Of these eight belong to District Doda and one each to Samba, Pathankote and Rajasthan.
The four bodies of district Kargil have also been airlifted to Kargil.
In an intensified rescue operation as many as 1196 stranded persons including 107 army troopers  have been evacuated through operation of 9 flights from Leh to different locations. The Sonamarg-Kargil and Leh-Manali roads are being repaired speedily and are expected to be cleared for traffic by Monday evening. The video conferencing link with NIC Leh and Kargil with NIC, Srinagar has been established and the facility is being availed to monitor the ongoing rescue operations.
 The Airtel has facilitated 10,000 prepaid Mobile subscribers to make emergency calls by re-charging each subscriber with Rs.10 as a step towards corporate social responsibility. The basic equipments required for restoration of telecom services by BSNL has been airlifted to Leh to ensure speedy communication.
 The Deputy Commissioner, Leh is being provided with additional five satellite phones for use in the control room and other vital locations.
 The government has asked the Principal Resident Commissioner to procure and arrange for airlifting of 15,000 to 20,000 drinking water bottles to Leh for a period of three days initially from August 9.The first consignment of 1300 water bottlers will reach Leh on Monday.
 To extend medical succor to the affected people, sufficient quantity of medical equipment has been dispatched to Leh along with additional team of doctors and paramedics.
