IT returns date extended

Srinagar, Nov 30: Not filed your income tax returns as yet?  Don’t worry. The Income Tax Department has extended the date of filing of the returns for the assessment year 2010-2011 up to January 31, 2011 in J&K.  The date has been extended for all categories of cases.
 Accordingly, the specified date as prescribed under Section 44 AB of Income Tax Act has also been extended up to 3Ist January, 2011. Claiming credit for the same, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a statement here said it had pursued the matter vigorously with the authorities concerned.
 The KCCI, it said, was also in the process of persuading the commissioner,  Commercial  Tax Department, J&K to extend   date  of  filing  of return up to 31-03-2011 in the same  manner  it has been  done by the Government of India in  case of Income returns. To mention, earlier, this paper had carried a news story underscoring the reasons that had hindered many a businessmen and people from other professions as well, from filing the IT returns in time because of the conditions that prevailed in the Valley for the last over six months.
