‘It’s proprietary land’

Srinagar, Dec 10: Responding to a report carried by this newspaper on December 7 that a senior minister in the state cabinet has allegedly grabbed a large chunk of land in Sedow forest zone in South Kashmir, sources close to Minister for Public Health Engineering, Taj Mohiuddin said the allegations were examined by the State Accountability Commission in 2005 and the complaint was summarily dismissed.
 Providing land ownership records of the piece of land in question to this newspaper, sources said: “The matter was again raised by a MLA during 2007 in Legislative Assembly. That time also the matter was examined by no less than the Chief Minister. The land is owned and possessed by the said Minister since 1983 as was reported by Shopian revenue authorities to SAC. The water connection was sanctioned under proper GR in 1984 and is a regular connection.”
 They said the piece of land being in the vicinity of forests does not mean that propriety land and revenue land automatically becomes forest land.
 “I will resign from my position if anybody proves that it is forest land and not the state land,” the family sources quoted the Minister as having said.
