Gandhi Global family rally reaches Sgr
Srinagar: The rally organised by Gandhi Parikarma for global peace (Gandhi Global Family) reached Srinagar today and thus completed 10, 000 kilometers.The rally was started from Ramban district and reached Qazigund-Islamabad (Anantnag), Shopian-Kulgam, Pulwama and later culminated the rally at TRC here.The rally is proceeding to Baramulla, Uri Aman Setu-Ganderbal, Budgam and Islamabad (Anantnag), Rajouri Poonch, Reasi and other areas of the J&K.
CCTA meets Omar, submits memorandum
Srinagar, Dec 10: A delegation of All J&K College Contractual Teachers Association (CCTA) headed by Sandeep Sharma met Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah at Dak Bunglow Rajouri, an Association statement said. “The delegation submitted a copy of memorandum regarding their long demands including formulation of a concrete policy for their regularization and enhancement of salary as per 6th Pay Commission recommendations,” it added. “Omar gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation to take up the matter on priority.” The other members of the delegation who interacted with CM were Mool Raj, Sonu Bhatia and Shally Sharma.
Aspirants for release of selection list
Srinagar: A group of candidates from Ganderbal district on Friday said that more than 14 months had passed after they appeared in an interview in Rural Development Department for watcher and orderly posts, but the government was yet to come up with the selection list.According to them, scores of candidates appeared for the interview for six posts in November last year after government advertised the posts vide notification number 1 of 2009 dated 14.7.2009. “But the government is yet to come up with the selection list,” they said, demanding intervention of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah.
Noted theaterist cremated
Srinagar: Prominent theatre and Television actor, Padam Nath Koul was cremated here on Friday. He passed away at SMHS hospital on Thursday after protracted illness. Koul was founder member of Ekta School of Drama and remained associated with theatre since 1970. The functionaries of Ekta School including Moti Lal Keemu, journalist Tariq Ali Mir and Abdul Salam Mir have expressed grief over his sudden demise.
Pensioners for resolution of K-issue
Srinagar: All Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Pensioners’ Welfare Association, at a function organized at a local hotel here on the International Human Rights Day on Friday with its coordinator Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Poshpuri in chair, appealed to India, Pakistan and leaders of Kashmir to initiate talks to resolve Kashmir issue to put an immediate end to violence in the subcontinent.The speakers sought immediate release of all detainees, revocation of black laws, protection of human rights and freedom of speech.
Nehra takes over command of White Knight Corps
Srinagar: Lt Gen JP Nehra has taken over as the new General Office Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps.According to defence communiqué, Commissioned into the Madras Regiment in 1974, the General has held various prestigious instructional, staff and command appointments during his over 36 years of service in the army.
BVO Pampore organizes awareness camp
Srinagar: The Block Veterinary Officer, Animal Husbandry Department, Pampore, Dr Zaffar Aman, organized an awareness camp at Wuyan in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.The camp was presided over by the additional district development commissioner, Pulwama, Tariq Ahmad Mir, and attended by a large number of progressive farmers. Dr G A Malik, Dr Zaffar, Dr Abdul Wahab, apprised the farmers about the emerging diseases of cattle and poultry. The chief animal husbandry officer, Pulwama, Dr Rafiq Naqashbandi, threw light on the departmental schemes and advised youth to come forward and adopt dairy and poultry farming.
Tariq Ahmad Mir distributed Mini Seed Kits among the farmers free of cost. He assured the participants that genuine demands would be looked into.
House gutted at Sheeshbagh
Srinagar: The upper storey of house of Taja Begum wife of Ghulam Muhammad Baba of Sheeshbagh near Islamia College here was gutted in a blaze on Friday at 2 PM. The family said the entire upper portion was gutted in the incident.
4 killed in road accidents
Srinagar: At least four persons including two women were killed in road accidents across the state on Friday, a local news agency KNS said.
It said that two women of Pampore and a driver were killed, when the oil tanker they were traveling in fell into deep gorge near Jawhar tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu highway this afternoon.In a separate incident, Ayaz Ahmed, a tipper driver was killed, when his vehicle overturned near Banihal area.
