Geelani seeks intervention of international groups
Srinagar, Dec 10: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Friday urged international rights groups to take cognizance of the human rights violations taking place in Jammu and Kashmir.
“I appeal Amnesty International and Asia Watch to take notice of the rights violations committed by the forces in the Valley and depute their teams to look into the abuses,” Geelani said in a statement.
“If rights groups fail to safeguard the people from state terrorism then commemorating international human rights day remains a mere ritual,” he said.
Geelani said more than one lakh people lost their lives in JK during past 20-years and majority of them were killed in “fake encounters” or used as “human shields during war operations.”
