Sheikh-ul-Aalam Chair recognized as research centre

Srinagar, Dec11: The vice-chancellor of University of Kashmir, Professor Riyaz Punjabi, on Saturday expressed happiness over the recognition of Sheikh-ul-Aalam Chair as a research centre. He hoped that it would evolve into a research centre of excellence in the times to come.
 Prof Punjabi while addressing the meeting of experts of Markazi Noor Sheikul Alam chair said that they should pave the way for the compilation of the authentic text on Sheikh-ul-Aalam. “This should be put on the KU website for the benefit of students and scholars,” he said.
 The meeting also gave its nod to the establishment of a folklore museum in the centre besides regular publication of ‘Alamdaar’ the research journal on the life and works of Sheikh. It was also decided that the Centre shall approach such scholars who could render their services for editing and translating the Reshinamas, existing in form of the manuscripts in different libraries. It also decided to appeal public for the donation of the rare manuscripts pertaining to Sheikh-ul-Aalam. The meeting also proposed to organize a 3-day national level conference on the topic “Mysticism in the local contexts” besides a 2-day seminar on the topic “Sources on Sheikh-ul-Alamiyat in the University.”
