5 more measles cases surface in Uri
Srinagar: Five more children on Monday were found suffering from measles in Churunda village of Uri along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Official sources said the teams of doctors and paramedics confirmed five fresh cases of measles among the children in Churunda village of Uri. The fresh cases have raised the number of infected children to 33 since last week. The teams of doctors have also started vaccination drive in the adjoining villages including Balkote, Saidpora, Pawarya, Tigawadi, Bradgran, Thajal Silikote and Soket. The health department made loud speaker announcements in the affected villages urging the people to visit the health centers for vaccination.
“Five more children have been found suffering from measles. The numbers of affected stands at thirty two now,” Block Medical Officer (BMO), Uri Dr Farooq Ahmad said.
“All the children are stable. We’re making every effort to provide adequate healthcare facilities to them,” he added.
Pertinently, two children have died since the disease broke out in Churunda village of Uri last week. Hundreds of children were also suffering in different villages of Uri with acute respiratory infection (ARI) and other diseases. (PBI)
