Govt forms joint teams to check violations

Jammu, Dec 13: Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a joint team of various departments to check traffic rule violations across the state, while it was examining the proposal to book owners and drivers of passenger vehicles, including in traffic violations, under the provision of Prevention Damage to Public Property Act.
To curb the increasing accidents across the state, a high level meeting chaired by Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon, Monday decided to constitute teams headed by RTOs, Traffic Police Inspectors, Naib-Tehsildars, representative of SRTC for launching joint drive against the violators of traffic rules.
It was also decided to examine the provision of filing of FIRs against owners and drivers of passenger vehicles under the provision of Damage (Prevention) to Public Property Act.
“For better management of transportation, transport policy is under consideration of the government, for this purpose, Real India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) have been asked to conduct a survey for taking early action”, the minister said.
Addressing the meeting, he stressed for strict implementation of time table of passenger buses fixed by the RTOs. He asked the Transport Commissioner to convene meeting of private transport groups of Rajouri-Poonch, Banihal-Jammu, Jammu-Kathua, Jammu-Chhamb and Jammu-R.S.Pura and ensure the implementation of the procedure strictly.
The Minister underscored the need for creating awareness among the people as well as operators of the vehicle about the traffic rules by holding camps, seminars, conferences etc to save the precious lives and property.
The meeting was among others attended by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, Secretary CAPD and Transport Pardeep Gupta, Transport Commissioner, Dr Syed Fazalullah, IGP Traffic, Kamal Saini, Managing Director, SRTC, J S Tandan, RTO, Jammu, Varinder Slathia, RTO Kathua, Shiv Gupta, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Bhumesh Sharma and other officers of the debarment.
