New Delhi, Dec 18: Communalism, especially right-wing radicalism, is expected to be the focal point of the draft political resolution coming in the two-day Congress Plenary session beginning here tomorrow in the wake of Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Hindu radical groups having created a major controversy.
The Plenary, the third after Sonia Gandhi became party chief for the fourth time, will also stress probity in public life at the meet which comes at a time when the party and the government are having torrid time in the context of a rash of scams to hit the Congress and the UPA coalition.
The resolution was finalised at a meeting chaired by Gandhi with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by her side after debates on all key issues including alliances.
After the poll disaster in Bihar, Congress appears to be back on the coalition course. Ahead of the Plenary Session the talk of going it alone has given way to one of political reality.
Rahul Gandhi, whose remarks to US Ambassador that Hindu radical groups constituted a bigger threat than terror groups like LeT have stoked a big controversy, spoke at the meeting today saying the demolition of Babri Masjid was a criminal act.
About the controversy spawned by his remarks brought to public by the Wikileaks, he said he would speak about the issue at the Plenary tomorrow.
The debate at the Subjects Committee meeting here focused on the issue of political reality instead of political compulsion.
After the Lok Sabha elections last year in which the Congress crossed the 200-mark, the talk of going it alone had begun in the party, including in key Uttar Pradesh where Assembly polls are due in 2012.
As the party faces Assembly elections in Left ruled West Bengal and Kerala on a high note with anti-incumbency posing tough challenge before the ruling combines there, the Congress resolution will also attack the left parties on the issue of corruption and poor governance.
The party in its political resolution will emphasise that terror has no colour or religion, party sources said. A senior party leader speaking on condition of anonymity said that Congress stand on the issue of terror has always been well-known that it does not believe that terrorism is linked to any religion.
The resolution is also set to attack the BJP as also the Left for attempting to destabilise the government and for the complete washout of the Winter session over their JPC demand to probe the 2G Spectrum issue.
The plenary could also see proposal for raising the tenure of Congress President from the current three years to five years.
The resolution is unlikely to have any reference to the issue of small states including Telangana on which Justice Srikrishna Committee is expected to give its report by this month-end.
