Underweight LPG cylinders on sale
Legal metrology slaps challan against Bharat Petroleum

Srinagar, Dec 18: During market inspection, the authorities have found that underweight cooking gas cylinders are being sold in the City markets while a case has been registered against Bharat Petroleum.
A handout of Legal Metrology department said its Assistant Controller, Srinagar “seized some LPG cylinders belonging to Bharat Petroleum for being underweight” during market inspection.
“These cylinders were found lesser in weight of gas by about 500gms. The challan case was registered against the company and the notice was served to sales officer of the company on spot through the distributor,” it added.
“The sales officer was contacted for the lapse and he holds bottling plant responsible for short filling,” the handout added.
“The weight of the gas in the cylinder must be 14.2 kg and the cost of refill of LPG cylinder is Rs 362/=, if collected from godown/showroom. The cost of refill of LPG cylinder is Rs 370/= if collected as home delivery.”
In case any retail-out is charging more than this, the officials may be contacted on phone no 2105756 during office working hours for action against the defaulter.
Meanwhile, the authorities, booked nine traders for “violating packaged commodities Rules, 1977 and Weights and Measures laws and fine of Rs4600 was recovered from them”.
