Valley transporters seek passenger fare hike
Demand immediate rollback of tax increase
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 18: All Kashmir Passenger Minibus Transport Federation today demanded immediate rollback of passenger tax hike the government recently announced.
Terming the hike in the passenger tax as “unjust”, the federation said it has come as a shock to the people associated with the transport sector in the Valley.
The federation also demanded increase in passenger fare “in view of hike in oil prices and petroleum products.
The federation at a meeting of the representatives of its all units held here today with chairman Sheikh Muhammad Yousuf in chair, strongly condemned hike in passenger tax on all commercial vehicles by the government.
It accused the government of augmenting transporters’ problems rather than providing any relief.
“There has been tremendous increase in the prices of diesel, petrol and petroleum products. While this has broken the back of transport industry, the hike in passenger tax would further damage this important industry,” said a spokesman of the Federation in a statement on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Western Motor Transport Company, Shahanshah Transport Company, Star Transport Company, New Kashmir Transport Company, and Haji Peer Transport Company.
