Flawed arguments
This refers to the letter by Asif Qayoom on GMC Srinagar (GK 16-12-10). Refer to the lines in it: "Private practice is not a bane but a blessing for hundreds of needy patients who actually need help but cannot afford to stand outside OPD queues for hours. How do you expect a doctor to do justice to 200 patients in a single day?" I disagree with his assertions. Don't patients have to wait in queues outside private clinics? Don't they wait for their turn for hours together? I think their turn comes quicker outside an Out Patient Department than a private clinic. Reasons are quite known: at private clinics doctors are deliberately giving more time to patients. The author questions how a doctor can do justice to patients at OPDs. If this is the case, then how do same doctors do justice to the patients at private clinics after seeing a number of patients? Doctors have changed the mentality of people. People are discouraged to visit OPDs in hospitals and encouraged to visit private clinics. That is the bottom line.
