‘Water Sports being ignored by Govt’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 22: Various water sports clubs of Kashmir have accused the government and J&K State Sports Council of “ignoring the medal winning sportsmen” for the past many years.
“The continuous callous attitude of government and its main sports body, J&K Sports Council has brought, water sports like, Kayaking, Canoeing, Rowing, and many other related events on verge of extension in the Valley,” reads a joint statement issued by three water sports clubs - Lotus Water Sports, Friends Water Sports Club, River View Water Sports Club.
The clubs have appealed Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to look into the matter.
“We have been asking for the boats for practice, but no body cares, for years together no equipment has been provided. State Association has also totally failed for procurement of required equipment for the development and promotion of these sports,” the statement added.
The National championship is scheduled to be held at Bhopal Madhya Pradesh from January 12 to 16 but JK team is likely to miss that event.
“While all the state teams are going to participate in the National Championship only JK team will not be there due to lack of equipment and practice,” the complainants said.
