Curfew continues in Sumbal
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 22: Uneasy calm prevailed in sensitive Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipore district even as indefinite curfew continued for the fourth straight day on Wednesday.
According to official sources, curfew remained in place for the fourth running day in Inderkote and its adjoining village in Sumbal where six people were injured after group clashes broke out on Sunday evening.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police equipped with riot gear and sophisticated arms were heavily deployed in the area to maintain law and order. The forces enforced strict curfew in the area in a bid to calm the tempers following violent clashes between two groups of people.
“Curfew is in place in Sumbal town today. The situation at this hour is peaceful,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sumbal, Tahir Geelani said.
“As the situation turns to normal, the curfew will be lifted,” he added.
Pertinently, violent clashes broke in Sumbal when a scuffle between two youth turned into a full scale riot between two groups of people on Sunday.
