Power crisis: CM proposes, PDD opposes

Refer to a recent statement by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, asking the Power Development Department (PDD) to refrain from resorting to unscheduled power cuts. The statement made little impact on ground for reasons best known to the PDD. The next day, the PDD issued a statement that it was contemplating new power schedule for the Valley, thus indicating that it was so far working arbitrarily with regard to power curtailment. That signifies that the PDD had misled the Chief Minister. What the reasons, the point is that people are suffering in absence of electricity. The worst sufferers are the children who are appearing in different examinations or studying for competitive examinations. The power crisis worsens with each passing day, with PDD watching the sufferings of the people as mute spectators. The power situation was never so worse as it is today. In the previous regime, people never complained of power woes. They were happy on seeing no curtailments in the evening and morning. The PDD authorities owe and explanation to those who pay their power dues in time. If people in Kashmir are resorting to hooking, that is in connivance with the PDD employees. So if the department was to curb power pilferage, it must take its employees to task. People at the same time must cooperate and not resort to illegal means of getting electricity. Remember we all have to be answerable before God Almighty one day.
