Students hold protest against winter schooling
CALL IT ‘MONEY MINTING METHOD’
Srinagar, Dec 22: Scores of school children on Wednesday staged demonstration at Lal Chowk here against the government’s decision of winter schooling in the Valley.
The students of Model High School and Child Care Public High School appeared at the Press Colony and staged the protests.
Chanting anti-government slogans, the students said they were facing immense difficulties due to the non-availability of adequate heating arrangements in the schools. The protesting students were demanding immediate announcement of winter vacations for the students of ninth and tenth standard.
“We’re being discriminated. In nail biting cold, we have to reach schools and sit in classrooms devoid of any heating. We don’t want winter schooling, we want vacations,” Muhammad Sahib, a student said.
Ifran Ahmad, another student said the schools were duping the students by collecting hefty charges for providing heating facilities.
“Rupees 300 is being collected from each student for heating facilities. However, the facilities are nowhere. Winter schooling is only a money minting method of the government and the schools,” he added.
