Ist ANGIOGRAPHY AT SMHS
‘Diagnostics, therapeutic procedures to be performed in Cathlab’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 24: Doctors at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital today created history by performing the first angiography in the newly established state-of-the-art Cathlab.
SMHS Hospital, which is associated with the Government Medical College here will provide both diagnostic and therapeutic facilities to the patients suffering from the heart ailments.
“The diagnostics and therapeutic procedures would be performed by the specialists at minimal cost as compared to the hefty money charged in the privately run diagnostic centres,” the GMC Principal, Dr Shahida Mir told Greater Kashmir.
She said the Cathlab was part of Cardiology section of the Department of Medicine and was established with the cost of more than Rs 6 crore. “Other than angiography, angioplasty, ballooning and other tests will be conducted in the Cathlab,” Dr Shahida said adding the SMHS took the initiative after receiving increasing number of patients suffering from Ischemic and other heart disease.
“We are gearing up to meet the challenges in the field of cardiology,” Dr Shahida said adding the cardiology section had been regularly upgraded during the last one year. She said the Department had also procured state of art treadmill test equipment.
To de-congest the Out Patients Department in SMHS, the GMC principal said the OPD would be partly shifted to the newly established Institute of Traumatology and Allied Service, Shireen Bagh here soon. “This will ease out the rush in SMHS,” she said.
