Jammu, Dec 25: Minister of State for Power, Consumer Affairs and Transport, Shabir Ahmad Khan has said that agriculture is the backbone of State’s economy and government is endeavouring to popularize latest techniques and cultivation of high yielding variety crops.
 Addressing at a farmers training camp organized by agriculture department at Rajouri today, the Minister stressed upon agriculture experts to introduce high yielding variety seeds for promotion of agriculture crops in Rajouri.
 Shabir said that agriculture department in coordination with DRDA should make self-help-groups and acquaint the youth about the cultivation of various high yielding vegetables, besides mushroom cultivation. He said it is imperative for the youth of area to set up their self generating units under agriculture sector, adding that for the purpose the agriculture department and DRDA would provide financial assistance to them.
 The Minister who was on 3-day extensive tour of Rajouri district today also take stock of the pace of progress of various ongoing development projects, besides functioning of various departments. He inspected district hospital Rajouri and enquired the welfare of the patients besides arrangements made by the hospital administration for the patients.
 Shabir directed PDD and R&B authorities to formulate project report for widening of road from PDD Store Rajouri to district hospital so that the work would be got approved for execution at the earliest.
 The Minister inspected 3.15 MV receiving station, Palma and directed concerned authorities to ensure scheduled power supply to the consumers of village Palma, Neera, Kotara and Trale through this receiving station.
 Addressing public meeting at village Phawalgah, the Minister said that providing of basic amenities to all the areas is the priority of the government. He assured the villagers that water scarcity problem in the area would be fulfilled soon.
 He directed concerned authorities to formulate detailed project report for execution of water supply scheme in the area. He said the transformer facilities would be upgraded in the area, adding that Rs 5 lakh would be incurred under NREGA in village Phawalgah during current fiscal.
