Bear shot dead

Pulwama: A wild bear was shot dead by police in Malangpora Pulwama Saturday afternoon while one person Ali Muhammad Ahanger resident of Loojara was critically wounded by bear. The presence of bear created panic in surroundings at Malangpora even as hundreds came out of village in an attempt to trap the bear. However, the wildlife officials and people failed to trap the wild animal. The administration keeping in view the safety of people since bear had turned wild gave police the go ahead to shoot.
‘Only passport holders to apply for Hajj’
Srinagar: According to Executive Officer, J&K State Hajj Committee, the Hajj Committee of India has decided at a meeting held at New Delhi that for Hajj-2011, only passport holders will be asked to apply for Haj. All the intending pilgrims are hereby requested to apply for passports immediately and obtain international passports before the formal announcements of Haj-2011. Only passport holders will be preferred at the time of Qurrah (Draw of Lots).
Cold wave intensifies
Srinagar: The cold wave further intensified in Kashmir division today as the night temperature in Leh town of Ladakh region plummeted by nearly seven degrees to settle at a low of minus 16.4 degrees Celsius. The night temperature dipped in most parts of Kashmir Valley. Srinagar city recorded a minimum of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius against yesterday's minus 4.7 degrees C.
MILITANT KILLED
SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday said that an unidentified militant was killed in a gunfight with police and army in frontier district of Kupwara. “A joint party of police and army cordoned off Phrooltib Gali in Kandi forest of Kupwara this morning and launched searches. Militants present there opened fire which was retaliated triggering an encounter in which a militant was killed,” a police officer said.
36 injured in Budgam mishap
SRINAGAR: At least 36 persons were injured when a bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in central Kashmir Budgam district today, police said. "The bus (no. JK04-8727) on its way from Waterhail to Budgam town, skidded off the road near Jawalapora and fell into the ditch injuring 36 passengers," he added.
