Chaharum of Imam-e-Hai Bandipora on Tuesday
Srinagar, Dec 26: The Chaharum of Imam-e-Hai Bandipora, Peer Ghulam Muhammad Naqashbandi, who passed away on Friday, is being observed at Bandipora on Tuesday (December 28).Naqashbandi (85) who was known for his contribution in religious discourse was among the founders of the Daruloom Rahemiya and also established Auqaf committee Bandipora in 1960s.His Jinazah was led by Moulana Khursheed Anwar Nadvi and was laid to rest at Main town Bandipora adjacent to Shrine of famous saint Malik Sahib.Special prayers shall be observed for the whole day at the ancestral residence of the late Imam.

Srinagar, Dec 26: The students of B.Ed College of Education have appealed to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to direct the higher education department to conduct their examination of session 2010-2011 on time.“We have completed our course and are ready to appear in the examination before going for teaching practice,” a delegation told Greater Kashmir.

ReT teacher dies in mishap
Srinagar, Dec 26: A teacher died in road accident in north Kashmir’s Tangmarg area on Sunday, a local news agency KNS said.It said the Rehbar-e-Taleem teacher Riyaz Ahmed Chopan was hit by a Tata Sumo (No. JK-01J-7671) near Takia Batpora this evening. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.Pall of gloom descended over Batpora area as the word about Chopan’s death spread.

Srinagar, Dec 26: Police on Sunday said it arrested two persons and seized 10.2 Kilograms of Fukki from them.A police party intercepted a vehicle (No. DL4C-3492), near Sangam in south Kashmir for routine checking and seized the Fukki.Police identified the arrested duo as Javaid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Muhammad and Sajjad Ahmad Dar son of Assadullah of Tulkhan Bijbehara.
Jama’at alleges denial of facilities to detainees
Srinagar, Dec 26: Concerned over, what it called, the ‘sordid’ condition of the political detainees in jails and police stations, the Jama’at-e-Islami J&K has accused the government of denying basic facilities to them.“To provide food and healthcare to the detainees is basic duties of the government,” Jama’at spokesman said in a statement, accusing the government of denying basic facilities to the detainees.“The lawyers have time and again raised the issue in the courts, but the administration is showing no interest to providing these facilities to the prisoners, which directly affects their health,” he said, while demanding release of all political detainees.Meanwhile, Jama’at has vehemently denied all charges against its incarcerated ex-Amir-e-Zilla Mir Sonnaullah of Kujar, Kulgam, terming these as baseless and concocted. It has demanded his immediate and unconditional release from Kathua jail.
'Erratic power supply in Haripora'
Srinagar, Dec 26: The residents of Haripora Ganderbal and adjacent areas have alleged that Power Development Department is hardly paying heed to woes of the area as there has been constant disruptions in the supply for over a month.“We are facing erratic power every day as the electricity remains cut off three to four hours every day,” the told Greater Kashmir over phone.The residents appealed the Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter.
