Police thwart Shakeel’s sit-in
‘We’ll continue to fight for justice till our last breath’
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Dec 27: Police on Monday detained Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger, husband of Neelofar and brother of Aasiya Jan who were raped and murdered last year in south Kashmir’s Shopian town allegedly by men in uniform, when he was on way to Press Colony here to stage protest against the “cover-up” and seek for punishment to the accused.
Witnesses told Greater Kashmir that a huge contingent of police surrounded Shakeel’s vehicle near Lal Chowk and seized the press releases regarding the Shopian incident. Police later took Shakeel and his associates to Kothi Bagh Police Station and lodged them there. He was released later.
“Nobody is unaware of the heartrending Shopian tragedy. Even now the entire world laments the loss. The person with conscience still waits for the culprits to be brought to the book,” Shakeel said.
Referring to the investigation in the Shopian case, he said, “The only sympathetic support in this case came from Justice Barin Ghosh who was transferred outside JK. The irony is that instead of punishing the accused the blame was put on the prosecutor.”
“We are striving for justice and fighting. We will not feel exhausted till we achieve our goal. We will at no cost bear infliction of oppression upon our sisters and mothers. We will fight tooth and nail even at the cost of our lives,” the statement added.
