Trust deficit

This refers to the news ‘Be transparent and accountable: interlocutors to JK Govt.’ The panel is right in pointing out the ‘trust deficit’ between the rulers and the ruled. The ministers in the Omar Abdullah led state government are not accessible to common people. The state government often talks about being committed to addressing the grievances of the people. But on ground, the ministers are not seen. They don’t interact with those who basically voted them to power. It is really a matter of concern. At the same time, the state government is seen talking too much about various issues but doing little on ground. Take the case of power scenario which is deteriorating with each passing day. The new schedule is frightening for the non-metered areas when the fact is that it was the Power Development Department which didn’t carry out metering in these areas. Now they are being punished for none of their fault. The government should be able to at least provide basic amenities to the people across the state. That is the only way to plug the trust deficit and governance deficit that exists in the state.
