UN resolutions on Kashmir consented by India, Pak: Fai
New York, Dec 4: The Kashmir American Council Centre Executive Director, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai has said the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir were not the routine ones as their provisions were negotiated by India and Pakistan and it was only after their consent that it was endorsed by the Security Council.
Addressing a gathering at Alexander Hamilton Center, Department of Political Science here, Dr Fai said “India should recognize that there couldn’t be a military solution of the problem; any such solution is bound to invite challenge. This should exclude consideration of the ‘Line of Control’ as a prospective boundary between the two countries. For Kashmiris, the ‘Line of Control’ is only the name given to a cease-fire line between two armed forces fixed purely on a military basis on a certain date. Its legitimacy has nothing to do with the life of the people on either side except to disrupt it. It has existed as the Line of Conflict and its perpetuation would mean not the solution but the perpetuation of the dispute.”
He said the UN was well equipped to hold free and fair elections to end the conflict.
