Jammu, Dec 5: The ambitious e-governance projects in JK may be running behind schedule, there is some hope however, if government accounts are anything to go by.
According to officials some ambitious projects are being implemented in J&K which, according to them, would revolutionize the functioning in the government offices, besides generating good amount of employment opportunities.
“The state will soon have 1109 Khidmat Centres— on the pattern J&K Bank (JKB) opened in the state— to create employment opportunities and provide basic services to the people at their doorsteps,” sources said.
“The Centres, which shall be set up on a Franchiser-Franchisee basis, will act as Common Service Centres (CSC) for delivery of G2C (Government to Customer) and B2C (Business to Customer) services as also financial services in all the rural areas in J&K,” said additional secretary IT Saurav Bhagat.
“As part of a centrally sponsored scheme aimed to increase the access of Information Technology and create employment particularly in rural and far flung areas, the Khidmat Centres would be set up in next one year,” he added.
Officials said: “The Centres would act as service providers/kiosks where people could submit their electricity and water bills, besides getting details about their land records and other services.”
As per the plan project the central government has approved, the Centres would be operated in Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement. “While the respective district administration and Information Technology Department J&K would provide technical assistance, the private individuals would have to invest a very small amount of money.”
“While the Khidmat Centres of JKB provide banking facilities, the 1109 Khidmat Centres of Government would provide basic services to the people like submitting their power/water bills, etc. People would also get revenue records and latest information about different government schemes,” said additional secretary IT.
