SDA parking wall to be demolished for backyard ‘ventilation’

Todh Do Yeh Deewar!

Srinagar, Dec 5: A wall in the rare of the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) owned parking lot on the fashionable Residency Road is to be demolished soon.
The issue has drawn flak from some Residency Road traders who say the move was aimed to unduly facilitate road access to a shopping-cum-office complex on the Bund.
The shopping complex has its entrance from the Bund side while on the rare is the walled parking lot which opens towards the Residency Road.
“The wall demolition will lead to undue access and will be an interference with our business. When the previous government didn’t succumb to any pressure tactics why is the present one so desperate to demolish the parking lot wall?” questioned a trader.
The move according to local traders is aimed at facilitating defacto parking-cum-lawn  facility to the shopping complex behind it.
But the local MLA and junior Minister Housing and Urban Development department, Nasir Sogami clarified the no trespass would be allowed from the rare as a chain-link fence would replace the wall.
“We have allowed (the demolition) because the wall was shadowing it (shopping complex in the rare). The same is to be replaced by fencing,” he said.
When contacted the SDA Vice-Chairman, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi defended the government move saying it wouldn’t cause any loss to the state exchequer.
“They (the shopping complex people) will have to replace the wall with a chain-link fencing of their own,” Rizvi told Greater Kashmir.
