GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Jan 31: The search committee constituted by the government to look for a new vice-chancellor of the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri has failed to meet even once, since the day it was constituted.
Sources said the Committee formed by the Government under the chairmanship of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman SL Bhat to finalize the panel for the new BGSBU vice-chancellor is yet meet.
The Committee was constituted some five months ago. However, in five months the committee has not met even once.
Pertinently, the tenure of the present vice-chancellor Masood Choudary ended on October 2009. Choudary is managing the affairs of the University since 2003.
In 2003 he was the chief executive officer of the University apart from holding the charge of Additional Director General of Police.
Subsequently, on his retirement, he was elevated as the vice-chancellor of the University by the PDP-led coalition government in 2004. His first term of three years ended in 2007. However, under the UGC statutes he was given two years extension by the Ghulam Nabi Azad led coalition government. Sources said Choudhary’s extendable tenure ended in October 2009 and since then the Government has failed to find his replacement.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University came into existence by an Act of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly called the Jammu and Kashmir Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Act of 2002. The university is financed by the Jammu & Kashmir Wakf Board.
The Chairman of the Committee SL Bhat said that three member committee comprising member planning commission Dr Syeeda Hamid, former foreign secretary Salman Hyder, and MLC Muhammad Yousuf Taing have never met so far. However, he added that twice the meeting was fixed but at the eleventh hour one of the members Muhammad Yousuf Taing showed his inability to attend the meeting. He said Taing twice came up with excuses “forcing us to call off the meetings.” Interestingly Taing is considered to be close to the present vice chancellor.
