Blackout Kashmir

Mehbooba Mufti’s grouse that Indian media was not giving any coverage of daily mayhem in Kashmir is factually correct, but somehow illogical. We often accuse the Indian media of being biased toward Kashmir. Many a time, we write or speak against this bias. But what is the end result? They again blackout everything. And that is because it is the official policy of their media organizations. So why have any grouse at all? The Indian news channel gave extensive, rather exclusive, coverage to the snow avalanche in Gulmarg wherein some troopers had been trapped. But Kashmir was completely shut for a week before the avalanche following killing of two children by the so-called security forces. But the Indian media didn’t give any coverage to it. In the past too, it has been observed that these media organizations blackout everything about Kashmir, except for grenade blasts and fidayeen attacks. They just want to show the outside world that Kashmir is not a safe place.
