Mirwaiz visits Zahid’s family
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Feb 9: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Tuesday visited the residence of teenager Zahid Farooq of Brein Nishat here, who was killed by paramilitary troopers on Friday.
“Immediately after his release from house arrest, Mirwaiz along with Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam went to Zahid’s house to offer condolence to the bereaved family. Amid pro-freedom slogans Mirwaiz was received by hundreds of people on Boulevard,” a Hurriyat spokesman said in a statement.
Addressing the people, Mirwaiz said, “Troops are killing our youth without any reason. The killers of innocent Kashmiri students should be hanged.”
“As witnesses have said that Zahid was killed by the BSF troopers, demilitarisation is imperative for peace to return,” he said.
Forces deployed outside the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz were withdrawn last night. The Hurriyat chairman had given a call for UN chalo yesterday. However, authorities imposed strict restrictions to foil the march.
Meanwhile, Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah and National Front president Nayeem Ahmad Khan have been shifted to jails in Jammu region, sources said. They were arrested on February 4 from their respective houses.
Other senior Hurriyat (M) leaders including Bilal Gani Lone and Aga Syed were released last evening. They were put under house arrest since Friday.
However, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and Abdul Rashid Antoo remained under detention in police station Rajbagh, a Hurriyat spokesman said.
