Rains inundate City colonies

OFFICIALS MONITOR DEWATERING

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Feb 9: Scores of residential colonies in the City have been inundated due to rains and lack of drainage.
Greater Kashmir received complaints from many areas like Batmaloo, Lal Bazar, Barzulla, Omarabad Pirbagh, Rawal Pora and Bagh-e-Mehtab that the colonies have submerged due to continued waterlogging.
Road leading to dozens of houses in Omarabad, Peerbagh on the City outskirts is in ankle deep waters. The locals said they couldn’t move out of their houses.
“Water has entered into many houses and it poses risk to the foundation,” the residents said.
Meanwhile, a joint team of SMC officials including its top brass and officials from UEED toured various inundated areas like Raj Bagh, Lal mandi and the City centre.
The SMC said the dewatering had been started on “war footing” adding that the team of officials was conducting surprise check to monitor working of the pumps.
