Bar demands Maqbool Bhat’s body

Srinagar, Feb 10: High Court Bar Association has reiterated its demand of seeking the body of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat Advocate from the Government of India for its burial in Kashmir. Bhat is buried in Central Jail No. 3 Tihar Jail New Delhi.
“Today in an extra ordinary meeting of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association conducted in memory of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat on his 26th martyrdom anniversary presided over by the President Mian Abdul Qayoom, while paying rich tributes to the Shaheed Maqbool Bhat it was observed that Shaheed Bhat is one of the principle and profound leader of the freedom struggle and his contribution towards the freedom struggle is remarkable and unforgettable,” a statement said.
In the meeting it was demanded that the body of Shaheed Maqbool Bhat be returned by the Indian Government to the family members and the people of Jammu and Kashmir for burial in Mazar-i-Shuhada Iddgah Srinagar. “It is the incumbent obligation upon the Govt. of India under international law and other international covenants to hand over the body of the martyr to his family and allow the family members and his profound followers to bury the same in Mazar-i-shuhda Iddgah Srinagar with full religious rites,” it said.
